O reveillon, or New Year’s Eve, is celebrated in Rio on the Copacabana beach. Most people dress completely in white — especially the tourists — and stay on the beach until dawn. The municipality and other sponsors provide the logistics, such as live music (this year there were around a thousand speakers along a few kilometres of beach), lights and the off-shore boats for the firework show.
I went with my fellow CouchSurfers to said beach, and we partied. And just after the fireworks show — that incidentally was by far the best in my whole life: magic — everybody goes to the sea, to receive the blessing from the waves. This last part makes everything a bit more complicated, because beer + sand + water can be quite a nasty mix :-)
Unfortunately, as my camera was stolen on my second day here, I had to fetch the photos from other CSers. The gallery for this event is — guess? — here.
Well, happy new year!
We are now well into January and the cold UK winter is biting us. We are snowed in and every day driving to work is a struggle.
Anyhow, it looks that you are enjoing Brasil quite a lot + it is nice to see a familiar face next to you again.
Thanks.
I saw the news about the ice-wave in Europe, and I remembered that photo of you in Bayern with your car buried under several metres of snow. I hope the situation in Britain is slightly better :-/
Hugs from Salvador!
The couch on the beach is just… awesome!!!
Grazie mille for this beautiful pictures!
Unfortunately, just after midnight a big bunch of happy people decided to actually surf on that couch!
Take care with the rest of your trip.
Bisous à Nounours aussi :-)
